At its annual meeting in Hampton Roads the Civil War Preservation Trust honored the Richmond Battlefields Association and the Central Virginia Battlefields Trust as its 2007 "Preservation Organizations of the Year".
CWPT President Jim Lighthizer said:
The award is dedicated to the memory of historian and preservationist Brian C. Pohanka, himself a generous benefactor of the RBA and a charter member of its Board of Directors. The RBA was recognized for significant contributions towards the preservationof the Glendale battlefield.
" We are engaged in a struggle to save America's Civil War legacy. Without the kind of commitment displayed by this year's recipients, many Civil War sites will be little more than a memory within a few years."
